There are non-profit consumer credit counseling companies available that, at no cost to you, will help make payment arrangements with your creditors. However, these companies are funded by the same credit card companies to which you owe money, and since the credit card companies are paying the salaries for these companies, it is most likely that they will have the credit card company's best interest in mind when negotiating your debt, and not yours.

Also, don’t be fooled by the “non-profit” label on these companies; this provides you no protection.

Many people, with the best of intentions, enter into repayment programs with these companies and fail to complete them. They fail partly because the repayment plans may be made to favor the creditor and not the consumer. By entering into these agreements, many people have lost money that could have been better spent and have lost time in addressing their financial problems.
